Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park - Comox
Date: Saturday August 18 Meet: Meet at the library for carpooling at 7:30 to leave no later than 7:45 Time: entrance to the grounds at 10:00am Directions: Take the Trans-Canada Hwy north, merge onto the Nanaimo Parkway (BC-19N) to Parksville/Campbell River for 107 km. Take exit 117 toward Courtenay/Comox and merge onto the Comox Valley Parkway N and continue onto 29 Street, Turn left onto Cliffe Ave., turn right on 17 St., take the 3rd right onto Comox Road, continue onto Comos Ave. and take the 1st right onto Filberg Road. The park will be on the right. Driving time from Duncan (according to Google Maps) should be a little less than 2 and 1/4 hours. Costs: Gardens – free, Lodge – by donation Features: A nine acre landscaped public park that was once the home of Robert Filberg a former president of the Comox Logging Company. The property includes extensive gardens, a stream running through the natural ravine, rare and exotic trees and other features. The Lodge is a stone and timber structure done over a period of many years. The fireplace stonewall includes a First Nations petroglyph and cannon balls from the British Navy.
