Newcastle Island - Nanaimo

TIME: 9:20 at dock for Newcastle Island Ferry (we are booked for the 9:30 ferry)
Directions: The dock for the Newcastle Island Ferry is in Mafeo-Sutton Park. To get to the park, from Island Savings Centre Library, turn left on James to Island High Way then turn north for 50.5km going through Nanaimo (do not take the By-Pass) turn RIGHT at the Tally Ho/Mafia-Sutton Park intersection toward the water, travel approx 50m turn left into parking lot. The ferry dock is on the waterfront in the park.
Ferry: The ferry is booked for the trip but numbers are needed to ensure that there will be enough ferries to take the whole group. Please email Nancy at firstname.lastname@example.org to register to attend.

Camping Equipment (luggage, coolers etc. per person) – $2.00
Washrooms: There are several in various locations along the island’s trails.
Walking Conditions: good
Features: The Island is a park of 306 hectares. There are extensive trails that lead to various historic points around the island. The sites include an old Sandstone Quarry, a mine shaft, and an old dam. The hiking distance around the island perimeter is 7.5 km, but there are various trails with much shorter distances. Post Trip Review: Take a picnic lunch or buy something at the park concession for lunch. The ferry has not been booked for any return time. This will allow members to spend the whole day if they wish or to return after lunch. The last ferry leaves Newcastle Island at 8:45 pm.
